Former Volkswagen CEO charged with fraud in Germany


FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — German prosecutors have indicted former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn and 4 others on expenses of fraud and unfair competition, saying he failed to stop manipulation of engine software program that permit Volkswagen automobiles cheat on diesel emission exams.

Prosecutors in Braunschweig stated Monday that Winterkorn knew concerning the deceptive software program since 2014.

The prosecutors’ statement stated that the defendants faced from six months to 10 years imprisonment if convicted, and that bonuses earned resulting from gross sales based mostly on the deception might be forfeited.
