Yard House employee, 2 others accused of robbing restaurant…

SUNRISE, Fla. – A Yard Home employee and two different males have been arrested Tuesday morning in connection with the Christmas Eve 2018 theft of the Yard Home at Sawgrass Mills, the FBI introduced.

Zyheem Ian Smith, 20, of Orlando, Gedeon Joseph, 21, of Clermont, and Watverly Mortimer, 22, of West Park, are in federal custody and charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery.

“I need to commend the investigative efforts of Dawn Police Department that result in this successful arrest operation,” stated Scott A. Rottman, Assistant Particular Agent in Charge, FBI Miami. “These officers deserve our thanks and respect for the damaging work they do to keep our communities protected.”

In response to a felony grievance, Mortimer allowed the two males into the restaurant via a again door the morning of Dec. 24, 2018, earlier than the restaurant was opened.

Authorities stated Smith and Joseph went upstairs to the supervisor’s office and confronted him simply outdoors the workplace.

In accordance with the grievance, Smith pointed a Glock 19X handgun at the supervisor and snatched his cellphone from his hand.

Authorities stated the robbers then ordered the supervisor to open a protected and place the money into a plastic bag.

The robbers warned the supervisor they might shoot him within the leg if he didn’t comply, authorities stated.
About $22,000 was stolen from Yard House.

In response to the grievance, Mortimer was interviewed by detectives on the scene and claimed he did not know the robbers.

Authorities found the supervisor’s cellphone on the bottom behind the restaurant, which had Smith’s fingerprints on it, the grievance said.

Authorities stated Smith’s cellphone data showed that he had referred to as Mortimer’s cellphone 3 times just earlier than the robbery and the lads are associates on social media and even had a photograph of themselves collectively that was posted Jan. 10.

Detectives stated Joseph’s pictures matched the physical appearance of one of the robbers, and he’s seen in photographs sporting the identical distinct black and white Nike footwear that have been seen within the Yard Home surveillance footage.

The Sunrise Police Department, the South Florida Violent Crime Activity Drive and the FBI proceed their investigation into the theft.
